Slide Scanning Instructions for SSV Lab computer #3

Transparent Film Scanning 35 MM slides and negatives, up to 4 1/2inches Select Computer #3 Set up of Epson 4180 scanner 1. Power turn on switch right side toward rear. A. Green light on front right button 2. Open lid and remove white reflector pad by pulling up and out. 3. Select type of holder for film/slides and install. A. 35mm slide holder…Lay face up on scanner glass and position to top right. 4. Lay slides in holder usually with trademark name facing up and close lid. Start scanner software 1. Push green lighted button on front of scanner, then on the computer select “ Epson Smart Panel OK”. Or go to step 2 2. Double click “Epson Smart Panel Icon” on desktop. 3. Single click on “photo scan & save”. Preparation for scan 1. File location…Pick a location to store your slides. (c:/slides1) 2. File Prefix…. Name and 3 digit start number (vac001) 3. File Format…..jpeg, pict, pdf. 4. Quality…. 99 high 5. Resolution….400-600 dots per inch(dpi) 6. Click on Scan with options a. Check for “professional mode”. Set to prof. mode if necessary by clicking on “Pause” b. Doc type = Film c. Film type = Positive film (slides), (color negative),(b&w negative) d. Image type = 48 bit color, may also be 24 bit color. e. Resolution = 300-600 dpi. May be set higher if needed. 7. Click on preview scan. Fast scan that captures all info on scanner. May have to click on arrow at side of Preview Box for thumb-nail view. 8. Make adjustments before final scan. a. Select a slide by clicking on one slide or “all” box b. Crop by click hold and drag dotted box to size. c. Color adjustments – Image, Histogram and Tone. Use Help box for description of these adjustments. 9. Click on “scan box” 10. Click on “close box”. This saves slide info to previously selected area. Finish job 1. Use USB flash dev. to remove your files. 2. Remove slides from scanner. 3. Install white reflector shield.
